Coalmont OHV Park Tennessee sits 19 minutes from The Getaway on Ranger Creek, and if you trailer your rig to the plateau for a weekend of off-roading, it’s worth knowing about before you book. The park covers more than 1,700 acres of former coal mining land on the Cumberland Plateau, with trails ranging from easy green routes to serious expert terrain. It officially opened in 2023 as the first city-owned OHV park in Tennessee and one of the few in the country.
The Trails
The trail system is built for the full range of skill levels and vehicle types. ATVs, UTVs, side-by-sides, dirt bikes, and four-wheelers are all welcome. Green trails offer a manageable introduction to the terrain, blue trails step up the challenge, and the expert routes get genuinely rugged with steep climbs and technical sections. Along the way you’ll find water crossings, cave features, and overlooks that open up across the plateau. The terrain changes with the season. After rain, the easier trails get interesting and the harder ones get serious.
Trail maps are available at the park office. The trails are marked for difficulty so you can plan your day before you ride.
The Property and What to Expect
The park sits on land that once drove Coalmont’s coal mining economy. B Mine Road, where the main trailhead is located, takes its name from that history. Sandstone ridges, creek drainages, and dense forest make for riding that’s scenic as well as technical.
The park is open daily; passes are available on-site and at coalmontohvpark.com.
Staying at The Getaway on Ranger Creek
The Getaway on Ranger Creek is 19 minutes from the park and has trailer parking for up to three truck and trailer combinations. After enjoying the park, drop your trailer, use your truck to explore the area, and come back to a real bed and a hot shower at the end of the day. The property has five units: the Geodesic Glamping Dome, the Scandinavian Cabin, the Glamping Tent with Deck, the Porch House Cabin, and the Nordic Spruce Cabin.
It’s a practical setup for a riding weekend: comfortable base, close to the trails, no need to pack up camp every morning. When you’re not riding, there’s plenty more to do in the area; our FAQ has the full list of nearby attractions with drive times from the property.
