Our Geodesic Dome is the flagship at The Getaway on Ranger Creek: the largest unit on the property and the one most guests book first. This award-winning glamping dome rental in Tennessee runs over 700 square feet, with a 17-foot ceiling at its center and an 8-by-20-foot window framing the pond. Named #7 in the 2024 Glampy Awards.
The window is the thing. Eight feet tall and twenty feet wide, curving up with the dome itself. From the dining table or the couch, you get close to a 180-degree view of the pond, the ducks gliding around in the morning, and the trees lining the far bank. Sunrise, rainstorm, moonrise; you won’t see the same window twice.
The dome itself is the second thing. A 30-foot diameter geodesic with a 17-foot ceiling at the center, ringed with porthole windows that catch light from every angle. As a glamping dome rental in Tennessee, it was named #7 in the 2024 Glampy Awards, recognized for overall glampiness, originality, and shareability.
At over 700 square feet, the dome lives like a small apartment. The kitchen has a real fridge, electric stove and oven, microwave, and sink. Plus a Keurig and a really nice selection of pods. Behind a one-of-a-kind custom barn door, the bedroom holds a queen memory-foam mattress, with reading lights and USB chargers installed on the walls beside it. The bedroom has its own mini-split and insulated walls, so it stays around 72 degrees throughout the open season even when the main dome runs warmer or cooler.
The main living area has a couch that pulls out into a sofa bed, a giant beanbag that’s surprisingly comfortable for sleeping, and a 55-inch Smart TV. The bedroom has a second Smart TV. Sleeps up to four total.
The bathroom has a large tiled walk-in shower with both a standard and a rainfall showerhead. Dimmer can lights, an exhaust fan, and a small space heater for cooler mornings.
Above your head, the colored LED flood lights ringing the dome can be set to any color, fade through the spectrum, or chase along the ceiling. The kitchen lights cycle through warm-to-cool color temperatures with a quick toggle of the switch. A powerful ceiling fan with reversible direction helps move the air in any season.
The dome sits on a raised wraparound deck with stairs down to a graveled patio area. From the deck you look directly at the pond and the woods beyond it. Solar path lights line the railing for after dark. Down on the patio, the fire pit is yours to use (firewood provided). There’s a propane grill for cookouts and a picnic table for outdoor meals.
The dome’s structure is vinyl tent material with very little insulation, not solid walls. The mini-splits keep it comfortable, but expect the main area to run around 76 to 78 degrees on the hottest summer days and as low as 60 on cold spring or fall nights. The dome is closed for the winter season. The bedroom is the exception; insulated walls help it hold around 72 degrees throughout the open season, so the bed itself is always comfortable.
Sound carries through the vinyl in both directions. You’ll hear every raindrop and bird call, and the chickens after 8 a.m. Voices, music, and TV from inside the dome carry too, and other units on the property are not far away. It’s an open, connected feel rather than a sealed-off cabin, which most guests love.
Bugs are part of life in the woods. Ladybugs, beetles, the occasional spider, and flying insects sometimes find their way in. The chickens and Muscovy ducks roaming the property keep mosquito and tick numbers genuinely low.
The Getaway sits in Coalmont on the South Cumberland Plateau, central to the waterfalls, trailheads, and music venues that draw people to this corner of Tennessee. The Caverns underground concert venue is 19 miles away. Greeter Falls trailhead is 7 miles, Foster Falls is 12 miles, and Savage Gulf State Park is 13 miles. Bonnaroo in Manchester is 26 miles. Chattanooga is about an hour south, Nashville is about an hour and 45 minutes north, and Fall Creek Falls is about an hour northeast.
If you’re coming for The Caverns, the dome is one of the closest non-camping lodging options. If you’re coming for trails and waterfalls, you’ll have your pick of more than 15 within an hour’s drive.
